The organic barley of Vignamaggio was sowed last October and harvested two weeks ago.
The combine-harvester in the picture was used the last time in the early ’80s, before vineyards took over the Chianti landscape, to the detriment of the small scale cereal plantations; these plantations played an essential role for the daily nutrition of the farm workers and for the whole community.
The “comeback of the ears” was an exciting moment for all the farmers, used to harvest the grain in their childhood.
Our organic barley will be the main staple for our little pigs, which will arrive in autumn and will grow semi-wild in the forests of the Estate.
