DIY: VEGETABLE GARDEN LABELS

With Massimiliano’s help, we made some home-made vegetable garden labels, using only organic and recycled material. Labels for the garden make it easier to quickly identify the plant you are looking for, to mark the variety of squash you particularly liked the year before or to remind you, when you see those little leaves sprouting from the ground, what seeds you planted where all those months ago.

So away with the gaudy little seed packets from the nursery, used like flags to remind us what we planted: let’s get creative and make our vegetable garden even more beautiful.

WHAT IS NEEDED

  • 1 old pallet
  • 1 hand saw
  • 1 pencil
  • 1 pyrogrpahy pen
  • Bamboo sticks
  • 2 nails per label
  • 1 hammer
  • Rafia

WHAT TO DO

Use a hand saw to cut labels out from an old pallet. Once you have your wooden label, write the name of the plant on it in pencil. Remember to write clearly and legibly. Go over the pencilled name with the pyrography pen without burning yourself. Drill two holes and insert two nails to fix the wooden label to the bamboo stick,  so that it looks like a little flag. To decorate the label, wrap a string of raffia into a cross on the side.
