Scent of Must: The 2024 Harvest

Each year, as autumn arrives, the Tuscan countryside transforms into a spectacle of colors, scents, and traditions. For us here at Vignamaggio, this can only mean one thing: it’s harvest time! And this year, the 2024 harvest brings a special excitement with it.

In recent years, climate conditions have often pushed us to harvest the grapes earlier than usual. However, 2024 has surprised us in a delightful way: despite the intense heat that defined the summer, the grapes in our vineyards had enough time to ripen perfectly, offering us healthy, vibrant clusters ready to be turned into what promises to be an exceptional wine.

A Special Vintage: Climate and Grape Ripening

2024 saw a hot summer, with high temperatures accelerating vine growth. However, the late summer rains and cooler temperatures in September allowed our grapes to reach optimal ripeness, achieving a perfect balance between sugars and acidity. This blend of conditions has created the ideal environment for a promising harvest.

The manual harvest is one of the most exciting and delicate phases of our work. Each cluster is carefully selected, ensuring all its qualities remain intact before being transported to the cellar where the winemaking process begins. It’s a moment that is steeped in both tradition and innovation, with the fresh must filling the air with its enveloping fragrance.

Looking Ahead: The 2024 Winemaking Process

Now that the grapes have been harvested, our focus shifts to the cellar, where the winemaking process begins. With the scent of fresh must still in the air, we eagerly await to see how this vintage will evolve in barrels and bottles. The balance achieved between sweetness and acidity suggests a wine that will be elegant, structured, and rich in aromas, showcasing the unique flavors of our region.

We can’t wait to share the results of this extraordinary vintage with you. Cheers to the 2024 harvest!
